Distributed Scrum – A Fairy tale or a Nightmare!

Nirmala Banala is a Certified Scrum Master from Scrum Alliance. She has undergone the training from Mr. Pete Deemer. She has around 10 years of experience in the IT Industry. She has worked with various domains like Retail, Manufacturing, Insurance with clients spread across Geographies like U.S.A, Switzerland, U.K, and France. Nirmala has been working in Agile SCRUM framework for 2 years. She has been leading the teams as the Scrum Master and has been able to implement the projects successfully in the GDM model. She has been sharing this knowledge with teams in Infosys and is part of the Agile Community of Experts at Infosys.

Being Agile involves an amalgamation of emphasis on people, communication, working software, and responding to change. Especially in projects involving a distributed scrum approach, agility plays a vital role. This requires an open minded and optimistic approach towards changes from People/Organization. How does Agile help the Customers? How does agile framework work in a Global Delivery Model with teams distributed across geographies? What are the challenges faced? Why do we need to have so much communication? Why worry if my code affects others? How can we address the challenges? What are the tools that could help in Distributed Scrum? Just like an ugly looking caterpillar transforms into a beautiful butterfly, Agile framework enables teams to transform from an individualistic approach to a holistic integrated approach. It may seem difficult initially with lot of chaos, but once people understand the beauty of working in an agile framework, the whole experience has no looking back. In this session, I would like to share some of my experience and learning with working in Distributed Scrum for a reputed Retail client. I would also like to share some of the best practices followed at Infosys like Infy Swift - a custom framework that helps the teams to implement Agile framework in a well organized manner.
